ORIONTM, An Online Digital Video Data Analysis Tool: Changing Our Perspectives as an Interpretive Community

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

This chapter integrates the theoretical framework, design, and application of a tool called OrionTM-a tool for enabling online video data analysis research communities. The purpose of using video data analysis tools such as OrionTM in the learning sciences is to create tools for both individual and collaborative video analysis. Wulf (1989) and Edelson, Pea, and Gomez (1996) refer to these online communities as collaboratories. As an ethnographer, I refer to these participating and virtual members who interpret videotaped events as members of video analysis cultures. In short, the central idea is that when we use online digital video tools for analysis, our perspectives continually change as we become an interpretive community.
