Abstract

Evaluation of the state- of- the- art in the plastics processing technology used in furniture manufacture with special attention tiven to development trends. Review includes the processing of the following plastics for particular applications- injection molding of plastics furniture made of polypropylene, polystyrene, and polyurethane foam; molding of large foam pieces with integral solid skin; polyester casting for furniture. Thermoforming and rotational molding considerations show that these techniques have not found their inroad into furniture industry. Several plastics pieces of furniture are illustrated.
