Abstract

The manuscript provides a brief introduction to new programmable medical microdevice technology developed through a public-private partnership between Rice University, a startup venture called SensoDx and a manufacturing relationship with MiniFAB. Outputs of this fruitful collaboration are customizable single-use disposable cartridges that can be manufactured in high volumes and outperform all previous prototypes in terms of analytical performance, ease of use, reproducibility and cost. These labcard devices include high surface area nano-structured biomarker capture ensembles that are indexed matched to real-world biological specimens enabling high performance signaling, on-card sample volume selection, a standard process to digitize biological signatures, on-chip fluid storage in blisters and self-contained waste. These injection molded disposables with glucometer-like sampling interface are now being tested and validated in the context of major clinical trials that target significant diseases including cardiac heart disease, ovarian cancer, and prostate cancer. Initial clinical data from these 3 programmable bio-nano-chip systems are described.
