Abstract

Long and continuous space-based observations of stellar pulsations will be made available in a few years. We investigate the signature of localized magnetic activity in the spectrum of the global modes of oscillation of a Sun-like star. Using Monte-Carlo simulations, we estimate the precision that can be achieved on the measurement of the even splitting coefficient a2. It is found that, under certain conditions, some information can be retrieved about the surface distribution of stellar magnetic activity.
