QUANTITATIVE EVALUATION OF SPASTICITY IN CEREBRAL PALSY CHILDREN.

Abstract

The paper reports on a study that examined the quantitative muscle activity and resistance to passive stretch of the elbow flexors of spastic cerebral palsy children. The results showed that a low linear correlation (0. 18) existed between the quantitative muscle activity and the resistance to passive stretch. A computerized electromyography (EMG) telemetry system was used to measure the quantitative muscle activity. Twenty-eight cerebral palsy children, ranging in age from one to eleven years with spasticity in one or both upper extremities, were tested. The data were analyzed by the Pearson correlation coefficient program in the Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS).
