Abstract

A theoretical model for the scattering properties of micro-grooves has been constructed in the present study via a rigorous solution of the electro-magnetic wave theory which implicitly accounts for `non-classical' effects of guided waves in the cavity and interference of scattered waves. Exact solutions for perfectly conducting materials are presented and the reflectivities have been determined for normal and oblique incidence. The effects of the micro-groove size and periodicity and wavelength of the incident radiation on the scattering characteristics are examined. The analytical results are shown to asymptote to the smooth surface solutions in the limit of large width or small height.
