Abstract
This essay analyzes prescriptions for women's identity in Femina, the largest English language women's magazine in India. Three themes identified in the texts imply that while Femina promotes awareness, women are instructed to be cautious and not abandon tradition. Thus, the magazine promotes a balance between conventional patriarchal norms and assertiveness.
