During the 1990s, unprecedented urban growth brought dramatic change to Kathmandu’s physical environment.1 The Bagmati and Bishnumati rivers, which converge in the heart of Nepal’s capital, were among the urban features characterized in official and popular discourses as increasingly degraded.2.
