Abstract

By cooperative twisting of alternating molecules from the adjacent columns, the structure and reaction kinetics of the photochromic compound 3-methyl-2-(2′,4′-dinitrobenzyl)pyridine can be reversibly gated in a single crystal over a hysteresis gap of 10-11 K close to ambient temperature.
