Abstract
Three trends among the flurry of developments in the field of mold manufacture are discussed which stand out significantly- standardization of mold components (modular system), runnerless mold design, and markedly upgraded tool steels. Vast improvements in runnerless molding is concomitant with the increasing popularity of insulated runners. Use of collapsible core is demonstrated as a concurrent trend toward competition with inscrewing mechanisms in the area of internally threaded closures.
