Abstract
A reflection of the significance of Beyoncé’s visual album and artistry by two leading scholars, this brief essay serves as an introduction to Part I of The Lemonade Reader. Within the introduction, connections between the invocation of Oshún, the Nigerian orisha (deity), and a transgenerational focus on the black and feminine are cogently made. A brief overview of the essays included in this section is also provided.
