Abstract

On their own, the homeotic selector (Hox) transcriptional regulators bind very short, rather similar DNA sequences. To elevate their functional specificity, Hox proteins heterodimerize with other homeodomain-containing proteins. The structural basis for this fruitful partnership is now coming into view.
