Abstract
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) has many mechanical, bulk and surface properties desirable in vascular grafts. However, there have been many attempts to modify PTFE to form hydrophilic and functional groups on its surface to achieve long term patency. Surface modification techniques that create functional groups on the surface while minimizing morphological damage to PTFE are investigated. The functional groups can make the surface hydrophilic and provide sites for the attachment of peptides or other polymers with blood-contacting properties.
