title = "Swathi Kiran{\textquoteright}s research opens up new treatments for aphasia: Sudha Arunachalam investigates the linguistic support for children who are late-talking or have autism",
author = "Sudha Arunachalam",
note = "Funding Information: This project introduced me to a new population—late talkers— and allowed me to explore how they learn verbs. The findings highlighted the importance of good language-processing skills in verb acquisition, and how children with below-age language skills may need different kinds of linguistic support than typically developing children. In turn, this work directly led to a new R01 grant from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) to examine language processing and verb acquisition in preschoolers with language delays, with and without autism spectrum disorder. In this new work, I focus more specifically on understanding the role of language processing in learning, and I target children with a range of language-processing abilities.
