Abstract

A method of quantitating the endocardial outline of the left ventricle as observed during cine-ventriculography is described. The method is independent of size and orientation of the outline within the observed two dimensional plane and does not depend upon a reference frame for definition. The sensitivity of the method in distinguishing different shapes is discussed. Observations on the behavior of the method in a retrospective study of the shapes of the outlines of the hearts of patients with single vessel coronary artery disease as compared to normals are reported.
