abstract = "This paper uses a conventional task analysis (TA) in a compact parking space maneuver scenario. The goal of this analysis is to identify areas where driver errors might occur during a common driving maneuver. Backing out of a parking space can be divided into several components beginning with the moment the driver enters the vehicle to entry into traffic. A detailed operational sequence diagram was developed to describe the process. This is an exploratory study to extend understanding of drivers' movements as they enter a vehicle and how they proceed to maneuver in a confined parking space. The process can be used for future studies and to identify possible solutions to minimize backing crashes. The results showed that there are many areas where driver errors could occur for omission of steps and failure to detect.",
