Abstract
The Coulomb explosion of metastable SF 4 2+ ion formed by electron impact on SF 6 is demonstrated. The mass-analyzed ion kinetic energy (MIKE) scan technique is used for the demonstration purpose. It is found that SF 3 + and F + ions are formed with an average kinetic-energy release of about 5 eV. The results show that the relative cross section for the process as a function of energy has a threshold of about 45.5 eV.
