Abstract
A set of functional equations for Casimir constants of the motion in magnetohydrodynamics was derived. To obtain partial information on the functional dependence of the Casimirs on the state variables, a simple technique was developed. It was found that the approach uses the Hamiltonian structure of the system. To determine all the Casimirs for a magnetohydrodynamic plasma with nested magnetic flux surfaces, the approach was sufficient.
