The IAEA's international fusion and plasma physics activities - Report on the 49th regular session of the IAEA General Conference and the 8th Scientific Forum

Abstract

A report of the 49th regular session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference and the 8th Scientific Forum, is presented. The technological and organizational challenges in nuclear sciences were discussed during the conference. Round table discussions during the Scientific Forum showed the growing interest of the member states to join the fusion community with improved to new nuclear technologies. Four sessions on the topics of meeting energy needs, developing advanced materials and technologies, advancing radiation, and supporting nuclear safety were conducted at the Scientific Forum. The speakers highlighted the safety of nuclear fission power which is operated by a passive system without the intervention of operators.
