note = "Funding Information: T his 1999 issue of Research Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice represents the fourth compilation of commentaries and papers highlighting national efforts to link public health practitioners and academic-based researchers. Several important events over the past few months have made this an especially opportune moment to further strengthen the linkages between public health practice and academia. These sentinel events include the establishment of a HRSA Cooperative Agreement with the Schools of Public Health, the expansion of the Prevention Research Centers funded by the CDC, the proposed implementation of public health training centers by HRSA, and the likely expansion of prevention research by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) together with a significant increase in funding for NIH itself.",
