Abstract

The cosmological constant to the equations of Einstein of general relativity was introduced because it was believed that the universe was static. Recent observations show that the expansion of the universe was accelerating, which favors a small, but non-zero, positive cosmological constant with a value of 10120 in Planck units. String theorists have found a way to describe an accelerating universe.
