Abstract

Reviews research trends on the effects of persuasive messages on attitude change. It is concluded that new orientations to this area are required, and 2 general directions for theories of persuasion are proposed: (a) a theory of the acceptance of assertions and (b) a theory of the acceptance of complex messages. 270 female college students participated in an empirical investigation on the former, which supported the viability of the proposed approach.
