Abstract
The use of the tapered double cantilever beam (TDCB) specimen configuration for testing the fracture properties of neat and reinforced epoxy adhesives is discussed. The theoretical background is presented and the manufacturing procedure for both height (HTDCB) and width (WTDCB) tapered beams described. The advantages of this technique over various conventional measurements of fracture properties of adhesives are noted. Finally, numerous examples of TDCB specimen application in the study of structure-property relationships in adhesives are given.
