Abstract
The applicability of Web-based tools for the development of an on-line decision support systems (DSS) for real-time freeway traffic management was studied. A prototype incident management DSS which has most of the capabilities of similar UNIX-based DSS support systems was developed and tested. The implementation architecture and the individual functions of the prototype wide-area incident management support system using Web-based tools are described.
